What We Know
The Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms lineup just got a little bigger and a bit more verdant yesterday with the announcement that, on June 7, you can now head to a Swatch store to pick up the brand's new "Green Abyss" take on their $400 Bioceramic dive watch collab.
The rule set forth by Jean-Claude Biver at the relaunch of the Blancpain brand was that they had never used a quartz movement and never would in the future, and that still stands, with a Swatch-made SISTEM51 automatic-winding mechanical movement inside the 42.3mm by 14.4mm forest green case. That color nicely complements the vintage-hued cream Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour markers. That dive bezel is unidirectional, made of green Bioceramic, and has a deep black resin insert with Super-LumiNova inside. The watch features 91m of water resistance (Fifty Fathoms of water resistance, in fact).
You can pick up the new release at Swatch boutiques starting Saturday, June 7, for $400.
What We Think
I need another fun little watch like I need more khaki green or denim in my wardrobe. Well, actually, when you put it that way...
In all seriousness, this might be the best-looking Scuba Fifty Fathoms yet. As I cruised through the Swatch website, I realized I missed a few releases from the brand since the collaboration came out in 2023. Three of the models are now available online – the Atlantic Ocean (blue), Pacific Ocean (yellow), and Indian Ocean (lighter green with orange hands).
But I'm not one for loud colors, so just like my decision to pick up the black Snoopy MoonSwatch, I would have naturally gravitated toward the black Scuba Fifty Fathoms. That release felt a little monotone, however, and the new Green Abyss seems to be the perfect balance of color and seriousness. But if you're more fun than I, there are plenty of other colors out there.
